New Species for Wormholes & Warpdrives RPG

Wormholes & Warpdrives (http://invulnerablog.imperfekt-industrees.com/?p=1009) is my
still-in-development OSR-ish space opera RPG. It uses only d6s, and focuses a little on Star
Trek
-type space exploration and diplomacy and defensive battle. The minimal built-in setting is one I’ve used for years, but I only included a few of the species from the several campaigns I’ve run.

Half or more of the credit for some of these species, and the K’Thramm in particular belongs to my amazing wife Kevin-Lynn Kubli. Others were heavily influenced by our close (and departed) friend Ryan Isbell. Much love!

Be aware that this is my take on all of this stuff from our campaigns right now, but it’s evolved over time, and all of this should be taken as “what’s commonly guessed”, and not necessarily 100% correct.

Blells Kittoor Nongorodrath

Commonly called just Nongorodrath (or just “Blells” or “Drath”), although the Blells always insist that their full name is used. They have been known to attack if called “the Nongo”.
Blells are an aquatic species, that specialize in scavenging Forerunner artifacts, crashed ships, and minerals from seabeds. Their culture is very rigid and unforgiving; they’re used to banding together to protect themselves from native shark-like predators.
They’re a major member species of the Tsenari Empire; though not fully reptilian, they have scales, at least they’re not the hated mammals.

Isoba

Genetically engineered canines, designed to help hack computer terminals. The Isoba are identical to ordinary, non-sentient dog species. The Isoba were an experimental attempt to insulate the Enclaves against the kind of database corruption that, in the end, led to the loss of the Astrometric Databases and the Convocation’s downfall. Some Isoba have portions of the Astrometric Database coded into their genome; whether this rumor is true or not, those who know this rumor will stop at nothing to capture a “data dog”.

K’Thramm

Related to the Mahati and Eosians, the K’Thramm are a three-eyed, blue-skinned, caste-based, warlike species. Unlike the Eosians, are largely patriarchial, and there are indications that they once ruled a galaxy-spanning empire, although now they are little more than wandering conquerors, slavers, and technology-scavengers. The stats below are for the Armada that invaded Convocation space in its earliest days during the Perseid Wars, but other Armadas may be markedly different.

Mahati

A golden-skinned, three-eyed humanoid species related to the K’Thramm and Eosians. Those species recognize the Mahati as ancient forebears, presumed long lost, kind of like the Terrans recognize the Atlantean civilization. The last world of the Mahati is the remote world Anu-Mahat, deep in the Border Colonies, which has suffered terribly from the pollution of rogue Megacorps.

Valians

Once a slave warrior-race that served the K’Thramm, the Valians long ago won their freedom and now serve the galaxy as feared and sought-after mercenaries. During the Perseid Wars, various factions of Valians fought for both the Convocation and the K’Thramm Suzerainty. Valians are a likable, rough-and-tumble lot, natural soldiers who love relaxation and no-hold-barred sport almost as much as warfare.

    • Improved Attributes [PER].
    • Larger *2.
    • Reduced Social Status.

Zung

A short, green, three-legged humanoid race that were once members of the Convocation, but sold out StelNav during a major battle with the K’Thramm. The Zung have earned a reputation as judicious cowards, but like the Darai they’re major merchants. The Zung have only one gender, and are capable of both sexual and asexual reproduction.

  • Type: Humanoid.
  • Free Traits:
    • Cagey
    • Disposition [Dishonest].
    • Improved Attributes [LOG, PER].
    • Reduced Social Status.
    • Slower [Climbing, Running, Swimming].
    • Smaller.
  • Focus: 5.
